Manx Cat: advantages and disadvantages of having this interesting pet

Reasons for and against having a Manx cat as a pet

The Manx cat was first seen in the 1700s and has become quite popular over the years. The most distinctive feature of this breed is that some of them are in size, while some have short tails and others have regular tails. One size or one with a short tail is a feature that makes it attractive to people looking for something unusual about a cat as a pet.

While they come in all kinds of tail configurations, the main feature of these cats is the heads that are round with cradle ears when viewed from behind. It is a stocky cat with longer legs at the rear than at the front. Although they look different from most cats, the Manx will display many of the same characteristics as most cats along with some characteristics of dogs.

These are indoor cats that need to be spayed or neutered and make sure they have something to scratch. They like high places, so if you can’t find them, look around at eye level and you’ll probably find them on a shelf or on the back of a chair.

Pros:

The Manx cat is very intelligent and very playful. Their behavior is often mistaken for that of a dog, as they love to fetch things and will follow you around the house. They are good guard cats and are very protective of their territory and will attack an intruder regardless of size or type. They are very sociable and like to be around humans very much.

A Manx will enjoy playing in the water. If you let water drip in your bathroom or kitchen, you may find your pet playing in your sink. These pets are known to enjoy a bath, which is ideal for owners who want to bathe their cats without scratching them.

Your Manx cat will be good at learning commands and is therefore usually easy to train. They are not a complicated and complex animal, which makes them ideal for owners who want a companion as well as a pet.

A Manx is usually a calm cat without much verbalization, although it “trills” to its young or its humans and growls when protecting its territory. Even a cat in heat is pretty calm about it.

Cons:

A Manx pet is interested in everything and that is why it will play at all hours of the day or night. You may be disturbed at any time, which could be a problem for you and your home. If you don’t want your pet to bother you, the best option would be to leave your cat out of the room at night.

Manx syndrome is the number one health problem for a Manx and it could be of great concern to you. This causes a shortening of the spine and can be extremely painful and damaging to the cat as it causes problems in the future. Buying your Manx pet from a reputable breeder will eliminate most problems like this. Another thing you might want to do is buy insurance that can help you with the expensive bills associated with Manx syndrome.

Getting a cat that does not have Manx syndrome will mean that you will have a pet that is no more likely to have medical problems than any other type of cat. Due to the high degree of intelligence, the loving nature coupled with a relatively long life span makes a Manx pet a highly desirable acquisition for any family.

Consider all of these options when looking to keep a Manx cat. Once you know everything there is to know about them, you can decide if this particular type of pet cat is what you want in your home or as a companion. I think you will agree that they are not only unusual, but they also make good pets.
