we all do. We all have the habit of talking to ourselves, every waking hour, and then dreaming about the things we’ve talked about, thought about, and seen. We are spending these hours with a so-called expert, and that “expert” is you! However, that is just a voice. It’s not reality! And it’s time to declare spiritual warfare on that voice if it speaks negatively and prevents you from living the life you were meant to live!

Now, while I am a firm believer in discovering your Inner Wisdom, if you have had a constant problem that does not resolve itself, it may be necessary to take a fresh perspective, rather than listen to the voice in your head that tells you to continue. . doing what you’re doing. Those “Aha Moments” will come once you let go, at least a little, and try something a little different.

So what about approaching life from the perspective of wanting a clean slate? What I mean is to move from identifying with the story we tell about our lives (and our problems) to finding a new perspective. It’s not time? If you’re not sure, here are a couple of questions to ask yourself, honestly:

  • Do I persevere in certain things that irritate me? (In other words, do you obsessively think about things you can’t or don’t want to change)?
  • Do you hear yourself repeating the same complaint?
  • Do your friends’ eyes glaze over when you talk about “your problem”? (because you have said the same thing repeatedly)?
  • Is there someone in your life (home, friend, work) that gets under your skin? Much?

There is no judgment here! I have been a victim of all of the above! This is how I know we let our “stories” live us, too often. So here are some tips to “change your personal story”.

– Pay attention to your thoughts. this is huge. When you catch yourself worrying or thinking about the same problem, take a step back and look at it. Thoughts have power and you are visualizing and setting intentions for things to stay exactly the same if you keep thinking the same thoughts over and over again. Has no sense?

– Give yourself a choice: 1) I’m going to do something about it or 2) If I’m not going to do something about it, then I’m going to stop obsessively thinking about it. This is really very empowering! It’s a “take charge” moment that will fuel your confidence. When you allow worries to consume your energy, you are at the mercy of your story, rather than in charge of your life. And, as an added bonus, it keeps you much more present and in the moment.

– Keep a journal! I know we’ve all heard this, but journaling about key topics can go a long way. Keep it free-form, letting your thoughts flow without editing. Then, after a week or so, read what you’ve written. If you find yourself writing echoes of the same things, it’s time to take charge! This can be a very enlightening exercise. The trick is not to edit as you type. Just write about what you’ve been thinking, or what comes naturally.

– Pay attention to what others are doing when you’re “telling your story” (assuming you bare yourself, which I hope you do now)! If they’re not very committed, then you’ve told them a variation of this one too many times. They try to be good friends, but what we all need right now is some tough love.

So I’m pressing gently: how much of your story lives you, rather than you living your life? If you have answered Yes! to any of the above questions, then I think it’s time to do a bit of brain cleaning.
