The Rancho shocks (the RS9000 to be specific) were innovative pieces of engineering because they were the first shocks to have a manually adjustable valve. This gave the rider 100% control of the shock setting, however the valve was physically located in the shock body. This meant that the vehicle would have to stop for the driver to get out and crawl under the vehicle to manually adjust each damper. Sure, the whole process could be done in less than 90 seconds, but it would have to be repeated every time the driver wanted to adjust the shocks. This cumbersome task caused many drivers to leave their shocks on one setting for all driving conditions, essentially defeating the purpose of having adjustable shocks. The solution to this was a remote control in the cab that allowed the shock absorbers to be adjusted while the vehicle was in motion.

While this remote control system did its job, it was bulky and had to be mounted somewhere inside the vehicle. Air hoses were to be routed from inside the cabin to the outside of the vehicle and to each individual shock absorber. This network of air hoses was often the bane of the entire system because the air lines could become brittle and crack from the elements or vibrate and loosen in rough terrain causing a loss of air pressure and therefore thus, a loss in valve adjustment.

With the launch of Rancho’s newest line of suspension damping called myRIDE, RS9000XL shocks and quickLIFT shocks can now be controlled via an RS999705 myRIDE wireless remote. Unlike its predecessor (the RS99701), the myRIDE remote control system is completely wireless. Instead of mounting a faceplate and air pressure gauges on the vehicle’s dash, the myRIDE remote control is a handheld unit comparable in size to a modern cell phone. It can be stored in the glove box or clipped to the sun visor. And instead of analog gauges to show the current shock setting, the myRIDE remote has a digital display with accurate readouts. In addition, the RS999705 myRIDE remote control provides automatic system diagnostics, so if it detects that the air pressure to any of the shocks has changed, it instantly takes them back to where the driver last set them.

It is not necessary to use the remote control RS999705 with the new line of Rancho myRIDE RS9000XL and quickLIFT shocks. They’re compatible with the old RS99701 cab remote because, let’s face it, not everyone needs wireless when it comes to off-roading. If you’re on a budget or building an off-road rig that doesn’t need the cutting-edge innovation and clean install of the myRIDE RS999705 wireless remote, you can still opt for the RS99701 in-cab remote and use it seamlessly with your RS9000XL shocks. or quickLIFT. If you’re the type who loves gadgets and new innovations in your vehicle or just wants to avoid clutter, then the RS999705 myRIDE wireless remote control is definitely for you.
