Fast & Furious Movie Review: Vin Diesel Returns

Fast & Furious is the fourth installment in The Fast and The Furious series. It also brings back the actors from the original film and reunites them for the first time since 2001, when the first film was released. Clearly without Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, the sequels aren’t quite as good as the original.

Fast & Furious takes place somewhere between the second (2 Fast 2 Furious) and third (Tokyo Drift) movies. In this film, Dom and Letty (Michelle Rodríguez) are together in the Dominican Republic carrying out robberies on transport trucks. But the police are getting too close and Dom has to break up his new gang. Han from Tokyo Drift is part of this gang and will be heading to Japan when he and Dom part ways. Meanwhile, Dom also leaves Letty so she can start a new life without him and the baggage she brings with him.

Time passes and Dom, who lives somewhere in South America, receives a phone call from his sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster), informing him that Letty was murdered. Letty’s death forces Dom to return to the United States, still a wanted fugitive. Because of his love for Letty, Dom swears revenge. His quest to uncover the perpetrator leads him to, what else, a street race where racers live for a job driving for a notorious drug dealer.

At the same time, his former racing partner and recently reinstated FBI agent Brian O’Conner is investigating the same drug dealer with plans of his own to bring him to justice. O’Conner also enters the race.

And that’s enough of an excuse to put these guys behind fast cars and start entertaining the audience with breakneck speed racing action. Director Justin Lin is great with the car chases on the urban streets (the best parts of Tokyo Drift). The only downside to this movie is that there aren’t enough car racing scenes, but the story doesn’t call for it. However, viewers enjoy action movies like these. It has plenty of action scenes that keep you on the edge of your seat and blow your mind, making the impossible seem possible.

The story is certainly flimsy, but it’s enough to get me going. You don’t buy tickets to a movie like Fast & Furious and expect a dramatic story. You want action!

Now, the trailers lead us to believe that the whole gang is back together. But really, only Dom and O’Conner have significant roles. And that’s enough to raise $72.5 million in the opening weekend. The movie is all about fast cars, but without a doubt Vin Diesel as Dom is the main attraction. This is obvious when everyone got excited when he made a cameo in Tokyo Drift.

Overall, Fast & Furious is recommended. It is a very entertaining movie. The best thing is to go outside, not think about it, sit back and enjoy a movie that will blow your mind.
