Fortress is a very interesting runic word due to the fact that it can be used on a weapon or body armor. Some of the mods are common to both a Fortress created on a weapon and one created on body armor, but they also have different mods depending on which one the Runeword was created on.

This runic word is only available for ladder characters.

Chilling Armor is a defensive cold skill from the sorceress’s cold spell skill tree. Its primary use is to provide a huge defense boost and launch a retaliatory attack against ranged attackers in the form of an ice beam. The Retaliation Ice Bolt only works against ranged attackers who land a hit; against melee attackers, there is no retaliatory Ice Bolt, but the defensive bonus still stands.

A Level 15 Chilling Armor gives you a massive 115% bonus to your defense, performs a retaliatory attack that deals 28-38 hit points to your ranged attackers and lasts for 248 seconds.

The main attraction for players is the enormous boost that Chilling Armor grants, and with a 20% chance upon taking a hit, it would trigger quite frequently in the game.
