Like most people, I too wanted to do a reverse cell phone lookup. I wanted to try the free route and searched for free reverse lookups on Google. (These are not the exact terms I entered. I won’t give the exact words because I don’t want to get in trouble criticizing a particular website.) Regardless, there were pages and pages of websites promising a free reverse cell phone lookup.

I checked at least 10 of them and none of them gave me the owner information. What I got for free was the location where the phone was issued (I already knew it was local) and that it was T-mobile (which was of no value to me). He wanted to know who owned it.

A scary site – stay away from these guys

One of the sites was very strange. They asked me for my own mobile number if they were going to give the details of the number I wanted. I never give out my cell number, because I know it’s inviting a lot of trouble (telemarketers and identity thieves), so I didn’t. However, I put in a fake number to see what would happen next, then they asked for my name and address. I don’t want to call this a ‘Phishing’ website, but I know that’s what these sites do too. Get your personal information and then ultimately they will steal from you.

Better safe than sorry!

I decided it wasn’t worth sacrificing my personal information to save a few bucks on a reverse phone lookup. So I did some research, found a reputable website, and got my information (and some well-earned peace of mind) for a few bucks. I got the full name and address and a bunch of other information on the phone number in the question.

Anyway, I later found out that cell phone numbers have been removed from free public telephone directories to protect the privacy of cell phone users and prevent them from falling into the hands of telemarketers and identity thieves.

It’s just not worth it, a few dollars instead of all your personal information.
