How to get rid of swollen lymph nodes with home remedies

The most common cause of swollen glands is an infection, which can be caused by bacteria, a virus, or even a fungus. Generally, when lymph nodes become swollen and inflamed, based on the location of the node, it is possible to guess what is causing the swelling. For example, when a person complains of swollen lymph nodes in the neck region, it is most likely due to a cold, respiratory tract infection, mumps, measles, or an abscess in the mouth. Also, if the lymph nodes in the groin swell, it could be due to an ingrown toenail or foot infection. Infection in the arms or hands will cause enlarged lymph nodes in the armpits.

However, there are certain autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus that can cause swollen lymph nodes anywhere in the body. Even certain types of cancer, such as leukemia or lymphoma, can cause enlarged lymph nodes anywhere in the body.

Generally, when the nodes become enlarged and swollen, it is best to see a doctor for the necessary diagnosis and treatment. However, along with the treatment prescribed by the doctor, you can also try some home remedies to relieve pain and discomfort. Some of the home remedies that are helpful in getting rid of swollen lymph nodes are highlighted below.

Hot and cold compresses: If the site is tender, it can be soothed with the help of hot and cold compresses. Have a bowl of warm water and a bowl of ice water. First soak a cloth in warm water and place it on the affected site for about ten minutes. Then use another washcloth dipped in cold water and place it on the same spot for another ten minutes. Use this home remedy every hour to relieve pain and discomfort.

Massage – It is believed that massaging the affected site can help reduce inflammation to some extent. The nodes tend to swell when they are blocked. Therefore, gentle massage can help clear the blockage and release the contents of the nodule. This, in turn, allows the inflammation to subside.

Honey: For centuries honey has been used for its healing properties. It is believed that consuming honey can help reduce swelling and relieve pain. Dissolve a teaspoon of natural honey in a glass of warm water. Alternatively, you can add honey to some tea. Make sure no sugar is added to the tea. Drinking warm honey water or honey tea can help get rid of inflammation.
