Most Popular Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments

Non-surgical cosmetic treatments replace surgical cosmetic treatments with simple cosmetic fixes. Its non-invasive appearance, minimal downtime, short clinic time, and affordable features encourage more and more people to choose it over plastic surgeries. Reports of the number of celebrities undergoing non-surgical treatments are increasing every year, and at the same time, many who are applying for promotions or a new job are also taking the time to modify their appearance with them.

According to a survey conducted by the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), a total of 190,378 cosmetic/aesthetic procedures were performed in the UK in 2009. Of this total, 92,634 procedures were surgical and 97,744 non-surgical. This survey itself shows that more and more people are opting for non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

The top five popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments worldwide are reported to be 32.7% Botox and Dysport, 20.1% hyaluronic acid injections, 13.1% LASER hair removal, 5.9% autologous fat injections and 4 .4% intense pulsed light treatments.

Botox and Dysport are used for the relaxation of wrinkles and muscles. Botox is popularly used to reduce lines and wrinkles on the face and is also used as a treatment for medical conditions such as migraines, crossed eyes, uncontrollable blinking, and profuse sweating. On the other hand, Dysport is used to treat patients suffering from cervical dystonia.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) injections are given to hydrate and add volume to facial tissues and are commonly used to augment and enhance lips, cheeks, and facial contours. Restylane, Perlane, SubQ, Macrolane, Juverderm Ultra, and Teosyal are the brand names of popular HA-based products.

LASER hair removal is also popular today. Due to busy lifestyles, many choose to remove unwanted hair using LASER treatments. It is believed to be the most effective treatment for removing unwanted hair and controls hair growth over a fairly long period of time.

Autologous fat injection uses a process of harvesting fat from the body itself and injecting it into the treatment areas. Fat injections are given to fill in deep facial lines and wrinkles, filling in sunken areas on the body, lip and cheek augmentation, and facial contouring.

Intense pulsed light treatments are used to treat pigmentation problems such as age spots, acne scars, melasma, actinic keratosis, and poikilodema. Aside from that, IPL is also used for hair removal, tattoo removal, and treating vascular problems like rosacea, thread veins, port-wine stains, and superficial varicose veins.

As you can see, most skin conditions can be treated with non-surgical cosmetic treatments, with a new type of treatment being discovered every day. But it is recommended that you consult an aesthetic doctor before deciding on the treatment you should undergo. You should also keep in mind that you should not buy the DIY kits that are available on the net, as most of these products must be administered by a qualified and highly experienced esthetician.
