Although the audience expects the knight in a play to save the day of the damsel in distress, the knight in this play is actually a notorious evil knight. He is highly skilled and a professional at his craft as he has played this role in countless plays prior to his current performance and even now while in this performance he plays the role of a knight in many other plays with appearances on different dates or in the same dates. but at different times.
The gentleman is rehearsed and knows how to play his role and the gentleman has also studied the role of the protagonist. In case the female lead doesn’t play her according to the script, the knight doesn’t care as he is flexible and agile like a snake who can slip through nooks and crannies. The act of the gentleman does not skip a beat. For him, it actually makes the play more entertaining and exciting and chills his blood even more than he had planned and expected. Nothing that the protagonist presents makes the gentleman nervous. If he gets caught in a bind, the knight simply changes direction and continues to direct the play where he wants it to go.
Let us describe the protagonist of this work. The protagonist is a sincere, sweet, confident lady. She doesn’t have much street smarts. She has not been of any use to her because in most of her life experiences she relates to honest, frank and authentic people. The maiden in this play is living life trying to earn a living and attending to life’s responsibilities and waiting patiently for the time when her “knight in shining armor” appears. The maiden, having been involved in activities that one would regard as good deeds, never for a moment conceived the thought that she might be being watched from a distance by a knight who had a well-prepared plot to play.
The gentleman did his homework. He watched as the lady lived his life. He watched how she made a living. He watched as she attended to life’s responsibilities and watched and understood her deep desire to experience the day her knight would cross her path. The stage has been set and now the play is about to begin.
For the maiden in this story, what did the knight give her? She presented something. This is how a narcissistic emotional abuser works. The narcissistic emotional abuser enters the scene making promises. Did you get that part? Promises consist of words. Material goods are not present. Promises are just words. If really pushed and that means really pushed, the narcissistic emotional abuser might produce, but that’s only, only if he has calculated that the return on his investment will far outweigh any costs. If you were the damsel in this story, what would the gentleman have to present? Would it be good looks, a strong physique, a well-paying job, a nice car, a nice house, a good family history, an insurance plan, a retirement plan, a promise to take you on a trip, or a job title? The list could be endless, but surely the narcissist has figured it out. The crazy thing is that it really isn’t that hard to figure out the desires of most damsels. Somewhere between financial security, a loving home, and traveling with a loved one, the narcissistic emotional abuser can hit the mark.
When you ask yourself “How did I get into this madness?” That’s how it started. You were on your merry way living life and you caught the eye of a narcissistic emotional abuser.
