There are only a couple of “never’s” that apply to casino table games. One of them is to NEVER reach into your pocket to bet more than your original buy-in, the other is to NEVER QUIT A WINNING STREAK.
A winning streak can come at any time and last any length. You just don’t know, so you have to play it until it’s over.
Maybe it’s just one race at a particular table, or maybe it’s an entire game session, or maybe it’s the whole weekend, but until you start losing, keep playing!
Let me share a story about one of my winning steaks. It lasted a whole day and it was the best day I’ve played in my life.
It wasn’t the most money I’ve ever made, but it was the best streak I’ve ever been on.
Just to establish the story line; We flew to Vegas on a Friday night intending to stay until Sunday afternoon, my bankroll was $1500 and my table buy-in was $100.
We had an up and down weekend until Saturday night and we were almost even.
We got up on Sunday morning and after breakfast we checked out of the hotel, leaving our bags with the bell captain and planning to play a few tables before heading to the airport for our afternoon flight home.
We were staying at the Golden Nugget downtown and decided to walk over to the Union Plaza Hotel and give it a try… this is where the streak started… I walked up to a craps table for about $3500, had a run on it” incredible”. . We went back up the street to the Golden Nugget and played another craps table for $900 or so, then walked across the street to The Horseshoe and played a blackjack table for another $150.
At that time, my pocket was overflowing with money, so I gave everything but $100 bills to my wife. We call it the “crumbs”.
The winning streak continued ALL day, with everything but $100s going into my wife’s purse. Every time I played that day I won $180, $240, $460, $1290, $130 and so on.
We used the “crumbs” to eat and pay the expenses we had that day. I think we stopped for prawn cocktail about four times.
We obviously changed our return flight and checked into the hotel for the night.
Finally, late at night, I lost two or three tables in a row. The streak is over.
When we got to the room, my wife emptied her purse and it had over $900 in “crumbs”… and I had thousands in $100 bills.
What a day it has been! What a winning streak that was!
If I had stopped playing due to my flight time, I could still have gone home a winner because of the first table, but I wouldn’t have ended up with the thousands I took home. I would have stopped the streak before it ended and never knew what I was missing. But, because I rode it to the finish, I MAXIMIZED my winnings and had one of the best gaming days of my life.
Just like life itself, you need to have a game plan and be prepared to take advantage of whatever situation you find yourself in.
