Spend less on your car – 5 tips

Your car. You need one, we all need one. This need means we are going to spend our hard-earned money on these things. So what ways are there to keep our spending in check on our cars?

Let’s look at some ways to keep the miles running and the pounds firmly in your pockets.

1) Insurance.

This is the enemy of the pockets of all young drivers and sometimes older drivers can be affected as well. So how can you keep this enemy at the gates? This is a simple solution, use a comparison engine. It’s been said over and over again, but it’s all too common for people to just stick with their insurer. Loyalty will take your wallet anywhere in this game! Be sure to look around you and always keep an eye out for these pesky insurers!

2) Driving speed

Keeping your speed down on the motorway can save you hundreds of pounds a year. If you use the highway frequently, we are talking about thousands. Remember, this is all tax-free money that you could be using for something else. So remember, the speed limit was not designed for optimal fuel consumption, it was designed for safety. So if you see driving a little slower as an investment in your back pocket and your future, it will help. Keep the speed down and reach your destination a richer person.

3) Purchase costs

Always remember, with a more expensive car comes a more expensive recurring cost. Your car is not a single payment. Depending on the group your car is in will affect your insurance. If you need parts or specialized work, that’s more expensive. So see your car as a subscription service that you are paying for. The higher the upfront cost, usually the higher subscription cost you’re also paying. If you can get by on a smaller “subscription”, that will mean more money in the bank, less in Mercedes’ hands!

4) gasoline/diesel

The fuel you use in your car can have a big effect. These days, the gap between the efficiency of gasoline and diesel is closing. But traditionally, diesel cars are more fuel efficient. On the other hand, hybrid or even electric cars are even cheaper! Taking this into account could result in a much lower cost of driving for you.

5) Drive less

This can defeat the goal of owning a car, but often if you can travel to work by public transport, the total cost of driving will be greatly reduced. This may not be feasible for your circumstances, but in big cities this is almost always the best option!
