Man’s activities have led to an increase in so-called greenhouse gases which include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxide, etc. The gases have created a greenhouse effect on the earth’s surface that prevents the reflection of the sun’s rays and therefore causes an increase in temperature. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the air has increased due to emissions from cars, planes, power plants, industries, etc. another reason is deforestation. Forests have been cut down paying for agriculture, industries and cities. Trees were natural regulators of carbon dioxide that used to control its level in the atmosphere.
Another is the CFC that is used in refrigerators, in fire extinguishers that destroy the natural ozone layer. The ozone layer was a natural barrier that used to prevent the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Without this layer, lightning strikes the earth and causes the temperature to rise. Researchers have found an ozone hole in our atmosphere, which they say is the main reason for melting glaciers in the polar regions. Land that is mainly made up of developing or underdeveloped countries, that has a large population needs electricity for day-to-day activities. The electricity supply is satisfied mainly by burning fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuel releases carbon dioxide which causes global warming.
The causes of global warming have been at work for a long time and have slowly caused the temperature to rise. The satisfying fact is that at least now the governments of various countries and their people have begun to understand that they are one of the causes of global warming. Therefore, the combined efforts of different countries have begun to control global warming and thus prevent the destruction of our habitat. Awareness, alternative forms of energy, energy conservation and reforestation can help.
