Asus ROG GX800 review

Probably the craziest laptop to date

At last, the Asus ROG GX800 gives gamers true desktop performance from a gaming laptop. Since gaming laptops generate a lot of heat, this unique gaming machine is largely liquid-cooled.

Design and features of Asus ROG GX800

The Asus GX800 is groundbreaking in that it’s the first laptop to enter the market with a stunning 18.4″ 4K display that’s well bolstered with Nvidia’s latest G-Sync display technology. In short, it looks like the GX800 is to become the most powerful gaming laptop in the world.

Liquid refrigeration

The Asus GX800 also comes with a detachable liquid cooling solution and provides a large bezel boost, should you want to take advantage of all these features. Asus Thermo Hydro Clocking allows the entire system to take full advantage of the power of your Nvidia GTX 980 to reach a frequency of 1428 MHz without overheating. Going even further than this, the liquid cooling system allows the other parts of the GX800 to reach their optimum potential. Thus, the powerful processor can reach a whopping 4.4 GHz with a maximum memory of 2800 MHz.

the new keyboard

Another added feature of this gaming machine is that it comes with a completely new mechanical keyboard, which Asus designed from the ground up using their proprietary MechTAG switches, as well as a whole host of properly integrated RGB LED lights. This gives it a mechanical feel. In effect, it’s a new multicolor keyboard that allows you to adjust and customize the keyboard backlight, key by key. It is also equipped with an anti-ghosting technology to prevent your keystrokes from being lost while executing multi-key commands. Since it is a completely new type of keyboard, Asus is tweaking the MechTAG Keyboard or Advanced Tactile Mechanical Gaming Keyboard to be perfect in every way.

Actually, the Asus ROG GX700 is an advanced and updated version of its predecessor, the GX800. Considered to be the ultimate gaming machine, this laptop comes with a dual GPU along with a powerful unlocked Intel processor. The machine has made bigger and better changes to the interior with various hardware upgrades. The GX800 is already extremely powerful with its desktop Nvidia GTX 980. As if this were not enough, Asus introduces a second GPU along with the Intel Core i7 K processors. This second GPU, in essence, offers twice the graphics performance compared to its predecessor, the GX700.

Of course, the Asus ROG GX800 with all its power consumption is also very power hungry. In fact, this gaming laptop requires two 330-watt power supplies, so it uses about the same amount of power as any mid-range desktop.

Verdict

The Asus ROG GX800 gaming laptop with its liquid-cooled design, advanced circuitry, powerful processor, and 4K display takes gaming levels to heights never before achieved by any portable gaming machine.
