Diet for the treatment of hemorrhoids

constipation and hemorrhoids

Bright red rectal bleeding that doesn’t mix with stool is usually the initial symptom of hemorrhoids (or the common misspelling Hemmroids, Hemroids). The prolapse occurs only with the first bowel movement and then subsides spontaneously. Persistent anal itching is a symptom of hemorrhoids. Pain occurs only when there is an acute attack of inflammation and edema with prolapse, or when there is a concomitant injury, such as a fissure. Several observations testify to the direct link between diet and hemorrhoids. Rarely, in fact, is this disease found in countries where the diet is high in fiber and low in refined foods. An important component of hemorrhoids is constipation, due to the greater effort required for defecation, which increases intra-abdominal pressure and prevents venous return. Also, the increased pressure increases pelvic congestion which can weaken the vein wall, making it easier for hemorrhoids to form.

more fibers

Ultimately, a diet rich in fiber is the most effective way to prevent hemorrhoids. Whole grains, legumes, vegetables and fruits favor intestinal peristalsis.

Many components of the fibers attract water and the stool becomes soft and thick, easy to pass.

Also vegetables and fruits contain many nutrients that increase the integrity of the veins, in particular bioflavonoids, vitamins A, C, E, complex B and zinc are important. Blueberries, cherries and blackberries are rich in bioflavonoids, apricots, melons, pumpkins, carrots and blueberries contain vitamin A. Zinc is present in oats, oilseeds, wheat, buckwheat, hazelnuts, almonds, peas, parsley, garlic and carrots.

In the case of hemorrhoids, we must balance, in addition to the intestine, the liver and the spleen, two organs that contribute to the health of the veins and, therefore, also of the hemorrhoidal plexus. If the energy of the spleen is weak, it does not nourish the connective tissue and, consequently, the veins are easily depleted. Therefore, it is important to avoid, in addition to refined foods, sugar (the spleen in fact suffers from an excess of sugar, and is nourished and rebalanced with the consumption of cereals), fatty foods and those that are too hot, such as sausage , red meat, milk, cheese, chocolate and coffee. We should reduce meat consumption, possibly substituting white meat for red meat or better still give preference to fish and vegetables as a source of protein. Also, in order not to overload the liver, we should prefer green leafy vegetables and reduce the consumption of nightshades, including tomatoes, peppers and aubergines.

Miso, seaweed and mochi

Some foods, proposed by macrobiotics, can play an effective role in the treatment and prevention of hemorrhoids. An especially good food for veins is miso, made from fermented soybeans and barley, rice, or wheat. Miso has a salty taste, it is mainly used as a seasoning for soups. In addition to cleaning the liver and improving blood circulation, it restores the intestinal flora, and is indicated for constipation and flatulence. Thanks to the alkalizing properties of foods, it is indicated for diseases such as arthritis, and finally it invigorates the kidney and thus improves the general tone. Although algae are an excellent food in the treatment of hemorrhoids. Added to the cooking of vegetables and cereals, it eliminates internal heat and improves intestinal peristalsis, thanks to the slimes that attract water and caress the intestinal mucosa. In particular, kombu is good for the gut, while wakame is better for the liver. The first is added to boiled vegetables, the second in soups. Another very suitable food to strengthen the spleen (especially good and tonic) is Mochi. They are small sweet rice cakes that can be heated over low heat.
