How to dress to lengthen your legs

You can create the illusion of longer legs by dressing strategically. Longer legs give the impression that you are taller than you really are. Women who are shorter tend to have short legs as well, but with the right clothing lengths and proportions, shorter women can appear taller with longer legs.

High waist skirts and pants

Tall pants and skirts elevate your natural waistline and make it look like you have longer legs. Fasten the waist with a belt or scarf to accentuate the waist and make it appear smaller. High-rise pants and skirts have been trending in recent years and come in many styles, fabrics, and colors. Pair high-waisted pants and skirts with a cropped crop top or tucking a longer top at the high waist. A high waist is meant to show off. Tall pants with flared, straight or tapered hems work well with high heels. The only downside to high-waisted pants is that they are unforgiving of women with heavy hips and pear shapes. However, high-waisted skirts look good in most ways.

Wear shorter skirts

This is another trend that shows more leg, or should we say almost the entire leg. For those who are comfortable showing off the leg, try shorter skirts and shorts that cut above the knee. Showing more legs makes your legs appear longer. For skirts, do a flex test to check if the skirt is revealing too much. This is done by bending over and looking back in a mirror. If the skirt is pulled back so far that it reveals your underwear, the skirt is too short. Wear short skirts with boy shorts or boxers to avoid accidents. A full short skirt works well with straight shapes with skinny boy hips. Most body shapes will work best with a slim skirt or a stretchy mini skirt that hugs the hips.

Wear shorts

The same concept as short skirts, shorts make the leg appear longer by simply showing more leg. Shorts have gotten a bad rap lately for looking casual and inappropriate for the workplace. Sometimes shorts are best left for home clothes, gym suits, and weekend wear. But some trends have tried to extend shorts to the office by creating office shorts. These are shorts that use patterns and fabrics typically reserved for office wear. Then you get shorts in checks, stripes, and neutral colors on fabrics like polished cotton, linen, and wool. Wear office shorts with a nice silk blouse and jacket. Go bare-legged or in stockings. Don’t wear long socks.
