Macallan 60 Year Old Red Collection Bottled
The Macallan 60 year old red collection bottled in 2020 is a limited edition set of six whiskies. These bottles will be available in a hand-crafted oak presentation box. The wood used for the casks is sustainably grown in Europe and the leather on the case is made from soft red leather from the same Scottish supplier that creates the upholstery for luxury cars. The box will also feature a unique hexagonal display table for the whisky.
This limited edition is a great way to get a taste of the coveted Macallan 60 year Old Red Collection. It will have the distinctive bottle design by Italian artist Valerio Adami. The design of the bottle features a nude figure admiring the ‘1926’ label.
The Macallan 60 Year Old is the oldest Macallan yet and is part of the Red Collection. The red collection also includes the 40, 50, 71, 74 and 78 year old. These are some of the most historic Macallan whiskies. The name “Macallan” was derived from a family name – Alexander Reid, which means “the red one”. The red ribbons on the bottle refer to the oldest vintages bottled at The Macallan.

The Macallan has announced a new six-bottle series, called the ‘Red Collection’. Two of these bottles will be the brand’s oldest bottled expressions, while the remaining five will be new releases. Only two sets of this limited edition collection will be available in the world.
Macallan’s reputation is built on its use of exceptional oak casks. Its Master of Wood and Master Distiller sourced and seasoned the oak casks used for the whisky. The wood helps the whisky develop its unique aromas and flavours.
This new range of whiskies is a celebration of The Macallan’s diverse range of reds. It celebrates the richness of the brand’s history. “The Red” has always been the brand’s mascot. Alexander Reid named the brand after the color. In 1903, he released the Choice Old range, which featured vintages up to 60 years old. In the 1980s, Allan Shiach began to mark vintage Macallan bottles with a red ribbon.
The new Macallan 60 Year Old was released in February with a limited edition of 600 bottles. It was bottled in a bespoke lacquer box created by Viscount Linley, the Queen’s nephew. The Linley edition Macallan commanded a price of $160,535. Until February 2020, this whisky will remain the most expensive before it is officially bottled.
This Macallan has aged in American oak casks for 60 years. The wood is carefully selected to provide the distinctive aromas and flavours of an aged single malt. It has a long, smooth finish and is a great drink with food. You can sip it neat, or accompany it with a glass of water to add a dash of spice.
