Six leasing problems that almost all tenants face

Tenure is perhaps one of the most annoying problems renters experience. There are many owners with a paranoid attitude or who are not very kind when it comes to renting their houses to potential tenants. Landlords in particular have a habitual disdain for male tenants (mainly those who are single) to whom they (the landlords) pretend something like “Sorry, there is no room available to rent here.” Some landlords have a very unfriendly attitude towards couples living at home and openly disapprove of your request to rent an apartment.

In fact, leasing problems are so common that it is easy to assume the severity of the mental pressures a tenant often experiences. Read the article to know more about it.

1. Mandatory security deposit

This is perhaps the most terrible leasing problem a prospective tenant faces when looking for a rental property. Generally, the landlord requires a deposit in a bulky figure at the time of taking possession. Prospective tenants are supposed to deposit the security in advance and the landlord assures them that the security deposited will be returned to them (tenants) at the time of leaving or vacating the property. However, that is not the exact picture of the story. In fact, the landlord will take a large part of the deposit under the pretext of certain domestic damage caused by paying guests, even though the damage was too small for the amount refunded.

2. Expensive rent

Rents for decent-looking accommodation in most areas, especially posh neighborhoods, are too expensive to easily afford. In some cases, the owners increase the monthly payment that is usually four times higher than the amount fixed at the time of occupancy. Interestingly, tenants do not receive advance notification about the arbitrary increase.

3. Disturbed privacy

Being a paying guest offers another mind-boggling problem in terms of dealing with the untimely visit of the landlord, which is obviously an intrusion into the privacy of the tenants. Since they are not in a position to convey their true feelings for fear of earning the wrath or possible eviction notice from the landlord, poor tenants have to put on a brave face and greet the landlord with a grudging forced smile.

Four. Assume the cost of repairs and maintenance

No matter how good you are as a tenant, when it comes to paying for the cost of repairs and maintenance of household items like bathroom fixtures; the tenants have to bear the cost, not the owners. There are also homeowners who are very curious to charge a large amount of money if they hang posters on the walls, or if the owner paid the price for certain repairs even though the cost of the repairs was minimal.

5. No rooms for singles

If you are looking for a house for rent and you come across the slogan “RENT” on a sign, don’t just imagine that the flat / house is available to everyone. It is better to ask the owner if he is willing to rent the house to singles. This is due to the reason why many landlords are prejudiced about single tenants, believing that they are boisterous and will sabotage their property.

6. Notice of Eviction

“Vacate the room” is perhaps the most explosive rhetoric ever heard by a tenant.

The funny thing about running into such a situation is that there is no set time frame, no advance notice. It is similar to receiving a pink letter at work where you are asked to terminate your employment within the specified period before your company does so on your behalf. While it is a great relief for tenants to have everything documented, the eviction notice is still a painful experience, especially married couples with children face a great deal of trouble because of this. The only remedial solution to address this problem is to closely study the legal documents (rental agreement and other lease documents) and make sure that you have understood the fine print of the rental agreement before signing it.

Since most people feel that leasing is a chronic headache or finding the right rental accommodation is a challenging task, they prefer to buy an apartment to get rid of pesky leasing problems once and for all.
