US Concealed Transport Reciprocity – National Reciprocity Bills Introduced to Congress

National reciprocity for all hidden transportation permit holders could be more than just one more item on our wish list. Congress has active bills prepared to accomplish this currently in subcommittees.

Due to recent administrative changes in Washington DC, supporters are optimistic that these bills have more than a fighting chance of becoming law.

I always wondered why my Second Amendment rights stopped on my state line. They are American rights. I don’t want to get into any political issue. These are not political, they are our rights. Laws must protect our rights. Congress is nothing more than the representatives of each state, Our Congress makes our laws. The only reason we established the federal government is to unite the states, acting as one.

The amazing power of the United States, the President, and Congress only exists because we grant it. We have rights because we demand them. Each of us has the responsibility to express our demands.

The bills presented are the following:

S. 498 – Introduced by US Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), this legislation would respect the rights of people who possess concealed carry permits from their home state, or who are not prohibited from carrying them concealed in their home state, to exercise those rights in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

HR 923 – Introduced by US Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind.), This legislation is the companion bill of the House of Representatives of the S. 498. The legislation would also respect the rights of individuals who possess concealed transport permits from their state of origin, or who are not prohibited from concealed carry in their state of origin, to exercise those rights in any other state that does not prohibit concealed transport.

HR 986 – Introduced by U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (RN.C.), this bill would allow anyone with a valid carrying permit or state-issued license to carry a concealed firearm in any state other than prohibit concealed carry. This bill would also provide legal protection for law-abiding concealment permit holders against states that violate the intent of this bill.

HR 402 – Introduced by US Representative Rich Nugent (R-Fla.), This bill would allow anyone with a valid carrying permit or state-issued license to carry a concealed firearm in any other state that does not prohibit concealment.

I think these laws are long overdue. Unfortunately, my beliefs alone are not enough to achieve this. These bills are not yet the laws they should be. They need your help. They need your voice. They need your letters. Call and write your US Senator and ask him to co-sponsor and support S. 498. Call and write your US representative and ask him to co-sponsor and support HR 402, HR 986, HR 923.

Our system of government is not perfect. It’s the best we’ve discovered so far. It requires one thing to function properly. We, the people, have the right and the power to say how we want to be governed. Our representatives work for us. We need to make sure they know what we want.
