I just finished reading “Your Portable Empire: How to Earn Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love” by Pat O’Bryan. As a professional blogger and internet entrepreneur, I like to read all the books I could find on the topic of making money online. I had high expectations for this but was left wanting more and overall was disappointed.

As the title suggests, this is a resource that will teach you how to make money doing what you love.

I was hoping for a step by step guide on how to make money. This book provides almost no real concrete information on how to be successful in making money. Everything is too simplified and it is information that is repeated and dated. This is not a strong reference book at all. The author fills much of the book promoting himself and also promoting his friends. I felt like he was reading a sales brochure instead of a resource that was supposed to help me. The chapters are not well structured and jump from one point to another without continuity.

There was one bright spot in the book and that’s the chapter on attitude and having the right mindset. This is very important and this is something that a lot of people don’t realize. The author shares some great words of wisdom and encouragement and I felt like I got a lot out of it from that perspective.

In closing, I wouldn’t recommend this book as there are much better guides to read on how to make money online.
