Who is behind the PCP?

Pearl Capital Partners (PCP) group is an independent investment manager. Your current funds are:

  • African Seed Investment Fund (ASIF). The sole investor is the Alliance for a Green revolution in Africa, which aims to provide quality certified seeds to small farmers.
  • African Agricultural Capital Fund (AACF). Its investors include the Rockefeller Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, and JP Morgan Chase Social Finance.

How is the proccess?

When I met Edward Isingoma, a partner at PCP, he told me about the principle behind the companies they seek to invest in:

“We need to be able to know in 30 minutes if we will invest in the business or not”

It means that I hope that before they submit a detailed plan, they will want to see an executive summary that provides information such as the history and profitability of the business, the amount required, and the like to help them determine if it is consistent with their criteria.

Our opinion/tips for success?

1. High social profitability. The investors behind PCP funds, like the Rockefeller Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates, aren’t just concerned with profits. They seek a broad social impact. For example, how will the company “advance the welfare of mankind”?

2. Government and ethics. This is also driven by the investors behind the PCP funds. For example, David Sainsbury, the person behind the Gatsby foundation, was the UK’s Minister for Science and Innovation. Therefore, this investor is expected to look for businesses that display strong business ethics and corporate governance.

3. Personal commitment. Before PCP can invest, they usually expect the entrepreneur to contribute some of the total capital. We expect this to be between 25-50% of the total funding.

Otherwise, best of luck.
