bathroom organizers

I had a hard time organizing my bathrooms: kids, his and hers, plus where to iron?

What can you do to get more bathroom storage space? If you have a linen closet in your bathroom, or a linen cabinet, several of your bathroom storage needs are already being met (at least it helps a lot).

But what if you need other bathroom storage? I have used most of the ideas listed here and they have really helped me declutter my bathrooms.

TOILET SHELF

A grooming rack holds all your grooming supplies in one place: your blow dryer, curling iron, and hairspray. It’s a great bathroom organizer for a lady on the go!

I used to keep these items in a drawer or just leave them out, but using a toiletry rack has really cleared up my bathroom. It also gives me peace of mind because my toddler can’t reach the top cabinet I mounted it in (it’s on the inside of the door) and gets burned. You can also mount these types of racks behind a linen closet or door.

Toiletry shelves can fit as small as a 12″ wide opening. Great!

TOILET PAPER HOLDER

You can buy decorative toilet paper holders, but if you need to save space, buy one that mounts to the back of a dresser or linen door.

If you prefer decorative ones, they come in various tower-like and decorative (basket-like) styles, which often don’t take up much space.

I like the door mounted ones because after installing a toddler lock on the door, no more toilet paper being flushed in the bathrooms!

COSMETIC DRAWER ORGANIZERS

These are really useful bathroom organizers. They are simple drawer inserts that organize your cosmetics, hairbrushes and personal items in neat rows and compartments.

They keep your cosmetics mess-free, not to mention keep your makeup out of sight.

You can also use decorative baskets on top of your dresser to hold your makeup. If you don’t like the idea of baskets on your dresser, place them in a linen closet to store them out of sight.

REMOVABLE OR TILTING BASKETS

These are the largest, and are either a wire basket or a plastic laundry basket with a lid (I prefer the plastic ones).

You can mount them to the floor of your cabinet (dresser or bedding), then just pull them out after opening the door.

If you place hampers inside a linen cabinet, you can still use the shelves or extensions above the hamper to fill the rest of the available space. One hamper won’t take up the entire linen cabinet.

There are also door mounted basket units. Its rollers also mount to the cabinet floor, but when you pull the door out, the hamper comes with it when you open it.

These bathroom organizers are typically between 14″ and 15″ wide, over 19″ tall, and approximately 19″ deep.

REMOVABLE TRASH SCROLLS

Pull-out trash rolls aren’t just for the kitchen. Bathroom organizers can be useful. When you’re in the bathroom, who wants to look at the trash anyway? And, if you have young children, it seems like they are always digging through the trash if it’s not put away.

There are dozens of removable trash cans to choose from.

Be sure to check the plumbing under your bathroom vanity to make sure you have room for a roll of trash before you buy anything.

FOLDING IRONING BOARDS

These are by far the most expensive bathroom organizers I have listed in this article, but, if you have the room and the money, these are really nice to have. Depending on the brand and its features, they can cost anywhere from $100 to over $400, plus installation.

There is no better place to install a folding ironing board than in the bathroom. It’s convenient and out of the way. I love mine.

You can mount it on your wall directly. If you are very handy, or know someone who is, you can mount it “on” your wall (this is how mine is at home). You’ll need to remove some sheetrock etc, but pull-out ironing boards can be made virtually flush with the wall.

There are several types of fold-out ironing board holders. The ones that are $100 or less will be really simple and just include the ironing board. Others will also house your iron, and some get really fancy and have electricity hooked up with a socket and switch to plug in your iron.

The exterior face of the roll-out ironing boards will be a pleasant wood, such as oak, or a wood that can be painted, such as birch.

The nicer wood fronts are usually already stained (and more expensive), but some can be found unfinished and stained to match your existing woodwork.

Paintable ironing boards are good if you want the exterior to blend in with the wall (in other words, you can paint them the same color as the wall). If you want to mix it up a bit, paint the ironing board surface a contrasting color for excitement and appeal.

Another idea is to mount a long mirror to the outside of flat surface (paintable) ironing boards. This is what I did with mine. The ironing board is in a small bathroom and the mirror really gives the illusion of more space, making it not only useful but also decorative.

Enjoy your bathroom with these ideas to order and organize.
