Dating customs around the world

In the early ages, there was no courtship or courtship. The men really captured their wives! They would raid villages and take the women they wanted for themselves. Many of our dating traditions were born in medieval times from the concept of chivalry. This is where we got the idea that the man should pay for dinner and the man should hold the door open for a lady. Women were given the right to propose in 1228!

Between 1830 and 1900, romantic love was considered important to relationships. The dating rules were strict and firm. Men and women had cards with their names printed on them that they left for each other in an elaborate courtship ritual. It was common for chaperones to accompany couples on dates.

Today things have changed, but there are still special customs depending on where you live.

In Australia, girls often ask guys out and pay for everything.

In European countries, teenagers often go out on group dates.

Dating is actually prohibited in Iran. Boys and girls are kept apart until they are ready to get married, and then their parents make the introductions.

Dating is also very rare in Afghanistan as most marriages are arranged.

Japanese and Korean people usually don’t start dating until they’re in college.

In Brazil, group dates are not at all common. People tend to date a lot longer before getting married.

In China, dating usually doesn’t start until a person is in their twenties. Chinese singles usually only date one or two people before getting married. There are also still cases of arranged marriages.

In most Asian countries, it is customary for young people to stay at home until they are married, and often a newly married couple will live with one parent for a while after they marry.

In kyiv, women do not like to shake hands. They think it’s not feminine. A woman will cling to a man’s arm when they go out on a date instead of holding her hand.

Relationships and marriage are important in all cultures, but the actual act of dating varies greatly depending on where you live.
