Don’t let any disability stand in your way

Do you know the man named Mathew Michael “Matt” Murdock? He is the alter ego of the Marvel comic book superhero Daredevil. He has a disability, particularly in his visual sense. When he was a child, a chemical blinded him. Despite his lack of vision, he became a lawyer and he was good at it. Yes, he has superpowers to make up for his visual impairment. His special ability is like a sonar, or a bat that uses sound to see objects even in the dark. Possibly one more real-life example is Reggie Miller, a former All-Star guard for the Indiana Pacers in the NBA (National Basketball Association), who has a habit of taking buzzer-beating shots. His success story is inspiring, he was born with polio which nearly paralyzed him, but he was able to overcome the odds and become a standout professional basketball player. Reggie wrote a book called “I Love Being the Enemy,” but his real enemy as a child was polio. In real life a large percentage of people are born with a disability every day, most would give up when faced with it. However, there are those who would not allow it to interfere with living a normal life. Some of those who have it were able to pass the test, and are even more successful compared to their normal counterparts. What are these disabilities that could actually reduce one’s confidence to live a normal life?

lose a limb

It is normal for you to think that this could only affect the physical appearance of a human being, but you would be wrong if you think so. In most cases, phantom pain that is a mental aspect is more difficult to overcome than losing a limb. It could last for years or even a lifetime if left untreated.

Visual disability

Virtually blindness is the most recognized disability in the world. Medical science is finding a way to solve this centuries-old problem. Schools and special facilities are built to help those who cannot see lead a normal life.

Sound of silence

This is perhaps the most invisible type of disability, and probably also unrecognized. Unlike a cripple or blind, being deaf doesn’t have as many benefits, due to the fact that anyone could post a deaf just to claim the benefit. Unless you are mute, which is generally associated with lack of hearing, people will think you are normal.

Disability can take many forms. Examples are our fear and anxiety, although they do not belong on the list but are very capable of crippling one’s value in society. We can’t completely ignore fear because it’s normal to feel it from time to time, but to have to fear something in extremes would be in another category. Trust yourself because it is the only constant ally we have to overcome fear.
