Renault’s unbeatable Indian, ‘Duster’

No one in India would have thought that after having such a disastrous experience with Logan, Renault would ever be able to establish itself in our Indian car market. Renault changed its strategy and studied hard before re-entering our market knowing that it could be its last chance to succeed. This time things worked out and they worked out brilliantly for Renault and its fortunes suddenly changed in India with the launch of its compact SUV, Duster. The term ‘compact SUV’ was never used much in our market, but since Duster came along, this has become one of the most popular car segments in India. All car manufacturers are now interested in this segment, including Renault’s alliance in India, Nissan.

Renault has used two different engines in the Duster; one each of gasoline and diesel. The diesel engine is available in two states and targets different segments of buyers. The Duster’s petrol engine is a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine that generates a maximum power of 106PS at 5,850rpm with torque of 145Nm at 3,750rpm.

The second unit is its popular 1.5L DOHC 4-cylinder engine that produces 85bhp of power at 3750rpm with a maximum torque output of 200Nm at 1900rpm, resulting in good fuel economy. This engine shares its five-speed manual gearbox with the gasoline engine.

The second stage of this engine produces a little more power and torque, which translates into better performance when driving on roads. It generates a maximum power of 110 bhp at 3,900 rpm, while it has a torque output of 248 Nm which comes in a bit late at 2,300 rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Two-tone interiors with a spacious cabin add to the car’s premium appeal. To make you feel like you have invested in the right car, Renault has added many features in this car such as keyless entry, power windows, power steering and heated air conditioning, power tailgate opener, 2-DIN music system, Bluetooth and direction. mounted phone and audio controls. The top trim also comes with premium features like rear air conditioning vents, parking sensors, driver’s seat height lumbar support, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and brake assist.

The Renault Duster handles like any other sedan in city traffic, giving it an added advantage over other heavy-built SUVs. Plus, you get more room for the price of any premium midsize sedan, making it a more practical offering. The car is on a hot streak since its launch and despite the entry of new rivals in the market, the car is still quite dominant in its segment. Renault Duster reviews also prove that it is the best compact SUV ever launched in India.

The Renault Duster’s price range also contributes to its great value for money. The price of its petrol version starts at INR 7.99 lakhs while the top model of its diesel version will set you back around INR 12.18 lakhs in Delhi (ex-showroom).
