Will IOS7 make iPhone app development cool?

Introduction

Well, there you go! Apple’s latest operating system, iOS7, was unveiled by Apple’s top leaders at the altar of Apple’s developer conference. Although it’s been a woefully late update, it does its best to portray the delta in front of its previous avatar.

Although not promising heaven, this new operating system presents features that Apple hopes to attract more converts and, consequently, reduce the base of devotees of other operating systems, mainly Android and Windows.

So what are these characteristics?

Monitor: The flabby, beveled app icons, once a rage but lately lost their luster, have been put on a diet plan. Now they are flat, but brighter and seem to appear on the screen. The “dark circles” surrounding the icons are gone, replaced with a refreshing new color palette and complementary fonts to justify the different label in iOS7.

User Interface: Usability concerns have led to a layered approach in which content is given prominence over others such as menus and windows. These interface layers become translucent to allow content to come to the surface so you know what you are doing right now. This eliminates the need to switch between your tasks and access a menu item. There is also the control center that places the most used settings and controls in strategic layers and can be accessed with a swipe at the bottom of the screen.

Apple has introduced a fun change in the perspective of the screen! Yes, tilt the device and the perspective changes to allow you to see the wallpaper behind the apps smoothly.

Usability:

Using Apple products is all about usability, isn’t it? The iOS7 does not disappoint in its USP. Have a look.

  • A quick swipe lets you jog between apps / tasks, as well as access important menus.
  • Swipe from left to right anywhere on a locked screen to open it.
  • Swipe from left to right anywhere on an active screen to go to the previous screen.
  • Share files easily: Airdrop, touted by Apple as the answer to Samsung’s bump-share-enjoy file sharing method using NFC, creates ad-hoc networks with other iOS7 devices. You just need to see the receiver’s device on yours and touch. Viola! Your file is sent to the receiver via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But hey, you can share only with iOS7 enabled devices. I am sorry!
  • Instagram Compatible Camera: The square is shaped like Instagram photos and iOS7 allows you to take pictures in square mode, in addition to panorama, photo and video modes. As always, just a horizontal swipe is enough to switch between modes. You can apply crazy filters to photos. A large red button acts performs the shutter function in all modes.
  • Siri is now a gender modifier: in addition to a new female voice to help you, iOS7 offers a male digital assistant to help with your inquiries. You have the option to change the loudness of the assistant from velvety to harsh while prompting you to search Wikipedia, Twitter, or modify phone settings; All of this features an update on Siri capability.
  • itunes radio – iOS7’s new built-in feature offers over 200 radio stations that can be built around your likeness to a particular artist or genre. You can also download the songs for a fee, of course, lower than your rivals.
  • Any other surprise: of course, there is the smart mailbox function, synchronized maps and notifications, activation lock, sharing photos through iCloud, viewing maps in night mode, are some of them.

Is the world of app developers excited?

The debut of iOS7 has been met with more disgust than amazement from the app developer community. The cynicism about the compatibility of the new iOS7 with its applications and the need to rework its applications to adapt them to this operating system haunts many developers. But eventually they will adapt to the new ecosystem of the operating system convinced that Apple can be convinced that iOS7 will bring the moolah as their ancestors were.

More analysis on this topic will be done in the next article. To stay!
